Celebrate the end of LVDL's summer reading program with dancing, food and fun for all ages! We'll start off with Uncle Mike Schneider & the Library Polkas, followed up by the In Full Swing Jazz Orchestra! No registration required ... all are welcome!

Design 101

Friday, August 17, 2018 - 4:00pm to 5:30pm
(Grades 7-12) Join us for some designing fun! First learn graphic design basics with Canva, that you can use for school or social media. Then decorate your own notebook to bring back to school! Please register.

Battle of the Books Orientation

Thursday, October 25, 2018 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm
(Grades 5-8) Join us for Battle of the Books, a trivia competition for 5-8th graders! We’ll meet once a month to practice for our final competition in April. If you’d like to participate in Battle, this orientation meeting is mandatory--we will form teams, assign books, and learn the rules. Please register.

Día de los Muertos Sugar Skull Decorating Workshop

(Open to all ages) Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a tradition that originated in Mexico. Ancestors who have passed on are honored with festivals and celebrations--decorated calacas and calaveras (skeletons and skulls) appear everywhere as the most recognizable symbols of the holiday. Join us to learn more about Día de los Muertos and decorate a sugar calavera of your own!

Meet the Author/Illustrator: Matthew Cordell, 2018 Caldecott Winner

(Open to all ages) The Caldecott Medal is like an Academy Award for Best Picture Book—it’s the highest honor an American artist can receive for children’s book illustration. We are proud to welcome Matt Cordell, winner of the 2018 Caldecott Medal for his book Wolf in the Snow, to LVDL for an all-ages event! Matt will share how he creates characters and do a live drawing demonstration, to be followed by a book signing.
