The History of the Great Lakes Naval Station

Erik Wright, Education Specialist from the National Museum of the American Sailor, will explore the history and heritage of the Great Lakes Naval Station from its founding in 1911 through two world wars, the development of modern warfare technology and its current role as Recruit Training Command, the US Navy’s only boot camp. The program is sponsored by the Lake Villa Historical Society.

Vietnam ceased being a combat zone 50 years ago but the personal memories live on for many. Our presenter, Philip Rovang, experienced it first while he flew throughout northern South Vietnam as a pilot; flying nearly 500 missions up to the DMZ and south to Saigon. He'll retell what it was like flying cargo/passenger airplanes during 1970-71.

Harry Potter Party

(Open to all ages) Join us for wizarding games, crafts and treats as we celebrate 20 magical years of Harry Potter! Muggles, wizards and witches of all ages are welcome to this drop-in celebration. Bring a new pair of socks to help free Dobby! Sock donations will be given to PADS, the homeless shelter system for Lake County.
