It was here that John Deere invented the self-scouring plow and Cyrus McCormick perfected and manufactured his mechanical reaper, dramatically increasing the efficiency and productivity of American agriculture. Author John Wasik will discuss how and why Illinois became such a hub of innovation. He will invite audiences to contemplate what must be done to ensure that our state can thrive in a global economy in which automation and digital technology are increasingly prevalent.

Everyone is fascinated to learn that medical cannabis is a safe and effective anti-inflammatory and pain reliever and is available in many forms (tinctures, capsules, salves, etc.). Discover why so many states provide access to this ancient therapy.

Adventures in China

Professor Rory Klick was based in Xi'an, China while teaching abroad for 3 months. Enjoy an evening of "armchair travel" as she shares what day-to-day life was like in the Chinese culture, and includes stories and photos from her travels to the Terra Cotta Warriors, Guilin, the Li River, Beijing and the Great Wall. She will share observations about environmental issues, urban planning, public transit, and agricultural production in addition to discussing the landscape, history, food and people of China.
