Lake Villa District Library Prepares to Close
Upon guidance provided by the Illinois Department of Public Health’s COVID Mitigation Plan, Lake Villa District Library will close, effective Wednesday, November 18. Reference Services and Curbside Pickup for library items, craft kits and program materials will be available. “Our main focus is always the health and safety of patrons and staff,” said Library Director Mikael Jacobsen. “This is the best choice at a very difficult time. ”Library staff will be available by phone or online to answer reference questions, assist with placing items on hold or accessing the digital collection and electronic resources. Additionally, Curbside Pickup will be available for library items, craft kits and program materials Mon –Thu 11am –7pm; Fri 11am –6pm; Sat 11am –5pm; Sun 1pm –5pm. The materials return will remain open. All returns are held in quarantine for a number of days before being checked in, sorted and shelved. Book donations are not accepted. “Even though the building is closed,” said Jacobsen. “We are still here for our community working to provide access to collections, resources, virtual programs and more.” Staff schedules have been adjusted to ensure continuity of service as well as a safe work environment. Staff who can work remotely do so to allow a healthy space for those whose tasks can only be accomplished in the building. Safety protocols for staff working in the building---face masks, social distancing---remain in place. “I sincerely hope we will be able to return to serving our patrons in-person in the near future,” said Jacobsen. “But for right now, we believe this is the best choice.” For more information visit www.lvdl.org.
